The Standard Gauge Railway line famous on its acronym SGR, is the modern railway track that replaced the old railway tracks that were used during the colonial era in Kenya.
The SGR runs from Mombasa Terminus to Suswa Terminus, which are the two main termini, with stops at different termini in between the two major Kenyan cities.
Pre-requisites:
- Internet access, of course.
- Bearers Names on the tickets and ID Number
- Registered Mpesa line, of course with cash for the tickets.
- Number of Travellers
You can book your SGR ticket online by the following procedure:
- Go to metickets.krc.co.ke
- Select your Preferred train (Madaraka Express for the afternoon and evening or SGR Inter-County for morning travel)
- Select your starting station if inter-county was selected above i.e Mombasa, Athi River, Emali, Kibwezi, Miaseny, Mariakani, Mtito Andei, Voi or Nairobi.
- Type in or Select your desired destination (Nairobi, Voi, Mtito Andei, Mariakani, Miaseny, Kibwezi, Emali, Athi River or Mombasa).
- Designate or select the travel date
- Select the coach type and indicate the number of passengers
- Enter the passenger details.
- Select the payment option (Mpesa), the prompt will be sent to the phone paying the amount, and the amount due.
- You will receive an SMS with the Account Number, Date of travel, Seat Number and Coach on your phone
- Thereafter, on the day of travel, at the station you will print the ticket(s) using your mobile and account number.
You can Book your SGR ticket via Phone on USSD or walk to the nearest SGR Station.
